68% of 26,000 houses delivered through Portugal RRP
Some 7,700 homes have already been delivered under the program, which aims to reach 26,000 by June 2026. The government guarantees its commitment and has already rescheduled the RRP (Recovery and Resilience Plan).
The information was released this Friday by the Secretary of State for Housing, Patrícia Gonçalves Costa.
According to Lusa, the official visited a development in Vila Real with five buildings and 180 apartments with affordable rents, a project included in the Housing Access Support Programme 1st Right, financed by the RRP (Recovery and Resilience Plan). The homes should be delivered to families by June.
The official also gave an overview of the 1st Right programme, which provides 100% funding for the construction or rehabilitation of 26,000 homes for families in need of housing by the second quarter of 2026, indicating that “approximately 17,700 homes” are currently completed.
The initial goal is to deliver all 26,000 homes by June 2026: “We have not yet reached the total number of this goal. This undertaking will increase the aforementioned total, but it is, in fact, a race against time — even more so with this catastrophe that occurred, which will have a real impact on the development of these constructions,” stated the Secretary of State, referring to the recent storms that mainly affected the Central, Lisbon and Tagus Valley, and Alentejo regions.
Despite the constraints, the government official guaranteed the Executive’s commitment and stressed that the most important thing “more than meeting the goal” is “to ensure quick responses to families.”
