The amount invested by small investors in Portuguese funds has almost doubled since 2019, rising sharply in 2025 to over €26 billion, the highest level since 2006.

The Portuguese diversified their savings. In 2025, the amount invested by small investors in national investment funds increased by €3.6 billion compared to the previous year, which translates into a year-on-year increase of 16.2%, the largest increase since 2021.

The figures, published this Wednesday by the Bank of Portugal, reveal that although most private savings are still invested in bank deposits, there is an increasing amount of money being invested in national real estate funds and securities funds (which include equity funds, bond funds, mixed funds and others).

At the end of last year, small investors had invested more than €26 billion in domestic investment funds, almost double the amount recorded in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic. It is also the highest value in the last 20 years.
