Demand for rural land increases – but not for housing
Demand for rural land plots has increased but not because of housing demand, but because of changes to Portugal’s Land Law referred to as the Soils Law.
According to the news source Público, demand for rural land plots increased this year because of the law which provoked a rush in the development of agricultural projects explaining the majority of the increases.
The news source adds that eight months after the government had changed the law with the aim of making more land available for housing, but ion fact the market is far from beginning to react as had been expected by the government.
The same publication mentions that demand for rural land plots is increasing and pushing up prices in several regions.
And driving these prices are investors who are planning to develop farming projects or expand those they already have by buying up more land.
