Portugal’s Brisa Group in exclusive negotiations to buy France’s Axxès
The Brisa Group, which runs many of Portugal’s motorway concessions and pioneered the cashless electronic Via Verde toll payments system in the 1990s, is in exclusive negotiations for the total acquisition of the French company Axxès, one of the main suppliers of electronic toll services for lorries, buses and other utilitarian vehicles in Europe.
Among the shareholders of Axxès are VINCI Autoroutes (together with its subsidiaries ASF and ESCOTA), the Eiffage Group, through its subsidiaries APRR and AREA, the Société Française du Tunnel Routier du Fréjus and the Société Concessionaire Française pour la Construction et l’Exploitation du Tunnel Routier sous le Mont Blanc.(The Mont Blanc tunnel franchise holder)
When concluded, this acquisition will significantly bolster the international presence of the Brisa Group and its offer for the heavy goods vehicles (HGV) segment, placing the Via Verde brand on the map as one of the main suppliers of electronic toll services in Europe.
Brisa Group holds several companies in Portugal and internationally. In Portugal, Brisa manages a large motorway network through its subsidiary Brisa Concessão Rodoviária (BCR), and also operates the Via Verde electronic toll collection system. Additionally, Brisa develops and markets technology solutions for mobility under brands like A-to-Be and Via Verde. Internationally, Brisa has a presence in the US and the Netherlands through its subsidiaries A-to-Be and Via Verde.
Last year the group’s net profit was up 21.5%% year-on-year to €309.5 million.
