State holding plans to produce 50 million armaments per year
The Portuguese State holding, idD Portugal Defence plans to build a small calibre munitions factory in Alcochete in a €40 million investment.
The aim of the project, which has already been concluded, and will be presented to the government in the coming months, will be to produce aircraft-borne missiles for the Portuguese armed forces as well as exporting them to NATO countries.
According to the President of the pubic company’s administrative board, Ricardo Alves, the factory will be able to produce €50 million worth of munitions per year and create 70 jobs, marking Portugal’s return to the munitions manufacturing of this type of explosives.
