Mercadona Portugal posts €26 million in profits
Mercadona Portugal has almost doubled its profits with sales exceeding €2Bn, profits of €26 million, and plans to open 12 new stores.
It was the second year running that the Portuguese subsidiary of the Spanish supermarket chain enjoyed record profits after raking in €1.727Bn in 2025, 25% above the results in 2024.
After making money for the first time in Portugal in 2024 after eight years of strong investment (€7 million), the food distributor, which claims a market share of 8.8% in Portugal (+0.8 points), saw profits from its operation in the country increase to €26 million in 2025 – almost double the target that had been set a year ago. (€14 million)
“We must continue improving profits, but we are very satisfied with the way sales are going and also with the 7,500 staff we have in Portugal. (…) We are very happy with how the Portuguese operation is working”, highlighted president Juan Roig, pointing to a projected €45-50 million profits” in the country this year. “Portugal is getting better and better and should to be on par with Spain”, he stressed.
