The Sage Group, a major business software company providing accounting, finance, and operational management solutions for businesses, has chosen to partner with Portuguese startup Augusta Labs to accelerate its global AI Centre of Excellence.

The partnership with Augusta Labs, which is an Applied AI Lab based in Lisbon that helps companies to develop and scale their transformation using AI, will help companies to develop, will place Portuguese engineering teams in the centre of developing Sage’s AI Centre of Excellence, reinforcing Portugal as an emerging hub for AI talent.

Through this partnership, multidisciplinary teams from Augusta Labs will work directly within Sage’s product organisation, helping to accelerate the development, industrialisation and scalability of AI solutions in production.

The goal is clear: to bring intelligent automation, real-time insights, and simpler, more effective experiences to millions of Sage customers around the world. This collaboration expands Sage’s AI and data engineering capabilities, and reinforces its transition to become an AI-first company.

In a context where companies are increasingly demanding more from the technology they use, from faster decisions to deep automation integrated into everyday life, Sage is committed to a pragmatic approach to AI. According to McKinsey’s latest The State of AI report, the organisations that capture the most value with AI are those that can quickly move from experimentation to production and scale those capabilities consistently.

To meet these growing expectations and drive its own high-performance goals, Sage is increasing its Applied AI engineering capacity through its new partnership with Augusta Labs.

Founded in 2024 by a young team, the Portuguese startup has been making a name for itself by focusing on Applied AI in real business environments, combining high-speed engineering with technical rigor and execution capability.

Sage’s choice of Augusta Labs reflects a growing trend for global multinationals to turn to highly specialised talent outside the traditional major hubs.
