70% of demand for detached homes in Portugal is for three bedrooms or over

Demand for housing in Portugal has revealed distinct preferences between apartments and detached houses, reflecting new family needs.

This is according to online property specialists Idealista that has published a new study on Housing demand and supply in Portugal based on the latest market statistics.

The report found that almost 70% of demand for detached houses was focused on homes with three or more bedrooms.

In the apartments segment, two-bedroom properties were most sought after, representing around 42% of buyers’ interest.

And demand partially its keeping pace with demand: 83% of detached houses for sale have three, four or more bedrooms.

As for apartments on the market, two bedrooms (36%) and three bedrooms (35%) dominate supply.

Studio and one-bedroom flats have a residual share of the market both in supply and demand.

In the case of houses in the countryside, four-bedroom properties or over dominate demand (30%) while three-bedroom houses dominate supply. (63%)

The data points to a structural change in the Portuguese housing market linked to new lifestyles, working from home, and a demand for more space.
