Business association forecasts uptick in Portuguese exports in 2026
The Business Confederation of Portugal/business school ISEG’s monthly barometer for December 2025 has confirmed Portugal’s end-of-year economic buoyancy and expects an uptick in the competitiveness of the country’s goods and services in the coming months.
“There are good prospects for a positive performance of the Portuguese economy, supported by the positive record of activity indicators and the favorable evolution of business confidence and economic sentiment indicators,” says CIP Director General Rafael Alves Rocha on the CIP website.
The CIP Economic Situation Barometer predicts that in 2026 the Portuguese economy will maintain the trajectory of the main components of domestic demand, foreseeing “a recovery in net external demand supported by the recovery in exports and the moderation of import growth”.
However, it points to a relevant degree of uncertainty in the international context. As for the last quarter of 2025, the Barometer notes, with the data available up to December, that the national economy maintained “the signs of dynamism that characterised the 3rd quarter, with emphasis on the positive record of activity in the construction and public works sectors and in the services and retail sectors”.
“The outlook is for a trajectory of normalisation of domestic demand based on the strengthening of investment and the return of private consumption to more moderate levels,” summarises Rafael Alves Rocha, director general of the CIP.
“There are good prospects for a positive performance of the Portuguese economy, supported by the overall positive record of activity indicators and the favorable evolution of economic climate and sentiment indicators.”
