Condé Nast flags 40 luxury stopover recommendations in Portugal
Condé Nast Johansens has elected 33 hotels and seven wellness clinics in Portugal in its annual guide to luxury establishments. The only country that has more recommendations in the annual guide is the UK with 74 suggestions.
These premises are all over Portugal from the North, Centre and the Algarve to the autonomous regional islands of the Azores and Madeira..
The Lisbon region has the most recommendations, followed by the North and Porto, Here the publishing house that owns Vogue and The New Yorker recommends the Torre de Gomariz Wine & SpaHotel in Cervães in the district of Braga, followed by Casa Melo Alvim in Viana do Castelo and Casa da Calçada in Amarante.
Greater Porto has secured the other nominations with the Hotel Hospes Infante Sagres Porto, The Lince Santa Clara Historic Hotel, Altis Porto Hotel, The Rebello, Forte de Gaia Autograph Collection, M. Maison Particulière Porto and the Wine & Books Hotels, Porto.
In Lisbon and the Tagus Valley there were 15 hotels/wellness clinics. Among them the Palácio Estoril Hotel Golf & Wellness gets a double mention (for both the hotel and the spa area), followed by the Altice Belém Hotel & Spa with a view to the river, the Luster Hotel in Saldanha, the Verride Palácio de Santa Catarina and the Dream Guincho.
Other places on the list in Lisbon are the Santiago de Alfama – Boutique Hotel, the Grande Real Villa Hotel & Spa, the Lumiares Hotel & Spa, the 1908 Lisboa Hotel, The Vintage Hotel & Spa, The Albatroz Hotel, Altis Avenida Hotel, Estoril Vintage Hotel and RM The Hotel Experience, while the Corinthia Lisbon gets a double mention both f0r the hotel and for its spa centre.
Four hotels are highlighted by the luxury publication in the Alentejo: Noble House Essence Évora, the Sobreiras Alentejo Country Hotel in Mosqueirão, Gandum Village – Conscious Boutique Hotel in Montemor-o-Novo and Quinta do Paral in Vidigueira.
In the South of Portugal, the Minor Group, owner of the Tivoli Hotels, have received a gold star with three hotels being distinguished by Condé Nast. The Tivoli Carvoeiro, the Marina Vilamoura and the Tivoli Alvor, while, Serenity – The Art of Well Being at the Pine Cliffs Resort receives a mention for its spa.
As for Portugal’s islands, the Autonomous Region of the Azores gets two distinctions for the Solar dos Cantos Botanic House & Gardens in the heart of Ponta Delgado, and the Terra Nostra Garden Hotel, from the Bensaude Group – both on the island of São Miguel.
Also in the Atlantic, Condé Nast Johansens suggests staying in five luxury hotels in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The Estalagem da Ponta do Sol, the 1905 Zino’s Palace, the Quinta da Casa Branca, the Quinta da Bela Vista and the Quinta Jardins do Lago are the recommendations of the owner of Vanity Fair when travellers are looking for a luxury hotel for their overnight stays.
