The Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK launched its first “Moving to Portugal” Show in Edinburgh on 21 November 2025, marking the event’s debut in Scotland and an important milestone in the Chamber’s growing programme.

The response exceeded all expectations. More than 110 people attended, filling the venue and clearly showing how strong the interest has become among Scottish residents who are considering a move to Portugal.

The event brought together a range of experts, relocation specialists and Scottish individuals who have already made the move. Visitors were able to explore the many opportunities Portugal offers to those looking for a change of lifestyle or a fresh start overseas.

A full seminar programme guided attendees through residency rules, tax and financial planning, property options and legal requirements. Speakers also shared insights into Portugal’s healthcare system, international schools and its welcoming expat communities.

Many delegates were particularly interested in Portugal’s outdoor way of life, warm climate and simple travel connections to the UK. These features continue to make the country one of the most appealing destinations for people seeking a better quality of life without losing touch with home.

“The turnout in Edinburgh really impressed us,” said Christina Hippisley, General Manager of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK. “More than 110 people came along, which shows how strong the interest is across Scotland. People are looking for balance: a safe environment, a sense of community and a place where wellbeing comes first. Portugal offers all of that, along with a welcoming culture that makes it easy to settle in.”

Presentations were delivered by Forvis Mazars, TPMC, Garvetur, SBPS legal and Currencies 4 You, along with personal ‘moving’ stories from Kay Anderson of Belli International and Ken Laidlaw from Hux & Gold. Their contributions gave visitors practical advice as well as real insight into what it is like to build a new life in Portugal.

After such a positive response, the Chamber has confirmed that its  “Moving to Portugal” show will return to both London and Scotland in 2026, alongside its existing programme of 2026 shows in Dublin and London. The aim is to continue supporting UK and Irish residents who want to understand the opportunities, lifestyle and community Portugal has to offer.

“Our events are designed to be informative but also uplifting,” added Hippisley. “Portugal has something for everyone, whether you prefer lively cities, coastal living or quieter rural areas. It is a country that values wellbeing, inclusivity and modern living, and that message really resonated with our Edinburgh audience.”
