Lisbon gears up to 10th edition of Web Summit

The 10th edition of Lisbon Web Summit – the largest tech summit in Europe – starts today.

The fair will run at Lisbon’s trade and exhibition site FIL between November 10-13, bringing together startups, entrepreneurs, specialists, companies and investors to debate the future of technology and its impact with artificial intelligence (AI) at the forefront of the four-day event.

The theme cuts across all areas and sectors, “from programming to health, from sport to energy, from creativity to space” — and promises to dominate the event’s debates states Web Summit.

Major issues will be highlighted throughout the stages and exhibitions: who controls artificial intelligence, who finances it and how governments, investors and creators are adapting to a rapidly changing world.

The latest edition of the Web Summit will start on Monday, November 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Altice Arena, and will be attended by Gonçalo Matias, Minister for State Reform, and Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon. Anton Osika, co-founder and CEO of Lovable, and Maria Sharapova, a former professional tennis player, are other speakers who will kick off the summit at Parque das Nações.

Among others involved in the Web Summit on various debating panels are Fernando Alexandre, Minister of Education, Science and Innovation who will participate on the panel ‘Digital equity = Educational Justice between 4pm and 4.20pm on Stage 13 on Tuesday, November 11.

On Wednesday November 12, the CEO of MEO, Ana Figueiredo will take part on the panel “What does the new era of innovation look like?’ between 1.35pm and 1.55pm on Stage 11.

Bernardo Correia, the secretary of State for Digitalisation will speak on the panel ‘Policies that power startup ecosystems’ between 3.30pm and 3.45pm on the same day on Stage 13.

International speakers

Among the famous international names making their appearance is Anton Osika, a former CERN physicist, and top engineer from the AI company Sana Lab and co-founder of Depict.ai and later Lovable.

Anton Osika will appear on the main stage in MEO Arena on Monday, November 10 between 6.35pm and 7pm on the Panel “Building for the 99%: Inside Lovable, the world’s fastest-growing tech company”.

On Tuesday, November 11, Cristiano Amon, the president and CEO of Qualcomm will speak on the panel ‘Human-centered design in the age of AI’ between 11am and 11.20 on the main stage.

That same say Brad Smith, the president and vice president of Microsoft will step on the main stage between 12noon and 12.20pm for the panel “No ordinary time”.

On Tuesday, November 11 Alex Schultz, director of marketing and vice president of Meta will share his vision for the future of digital marketing on the panel “The inside scoop: Digital marketing insights”, between 2pm snd 2.20pm on the main stage, returning to take part between 3.05pm and 3.35pm on Stage 10.

Finally, Matthew Prince, co-founder of Cloudflare will appear on the main stage on Wednesday, November 12 between 4.20pm and 4.40pm for the panel “Pay per crawl: when bots rule the web”!, returning on Thursday, November 13, between 11.30am and 11.50am on the panel “The AI browser wars”.

According to the organization, about 70,000 participants including 2,500 startups are expected over the four days of the event and, as usual, the use of public transport, namely the metro (red line) and buses, should be privileged. There are also several traffic constraints on the surrounding streets. The list of prohibited objects inside the enclosure can be consulted through the “Web Summit” application.
