Time Out Market Porto wins Real Estate Award 2025
Porto’s Time Out Market has won the 7th Real Estate 2025 Award in the category of ‘Rehabilitation & Construction – Commerce’.
Organised by Expresso/SIC Notícias, The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday in Leiria. The Real Estate Awards recognise works, projects, solutions or real estate agency initiatives in Portugal that have been completed or implemented between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
According to the promoters, the initiative aims to highlight and value quality and innovation in the construction, promotion and real estate brokerage sectors in the country.
The urban rehabilitation project of the Time Out Market Porto by architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, which focused on the South Wing of São Bento Station, fits precisely into this context.
“The project turned the space into a gastronomic and cultural hub, preserving the essential elements of the original building and, at the same time, adapting the interior to accommodate thirteen catering units.”
A 21.41 metres high metallic structure has been built on the new public square in a design inspired by old railway water tanks and which now offer a superb view over the São Bento hill and the Clerics Tower. At its base is a shop that completes the ensemble.
The rehabilitation sought to conciliate the functionality demanded of a modern gastro market while retaining the historic architectural heritage, fostering a harmonious integration into Porto’s bustling city space.
