Portuguese startup launches AI system that saves lawyers’ time
The Portuguese legaltech startup ByTheLaw has developed an AI solution for the legal sector based on the the needs of law firm Sérvulo & Associados.
The system automatically organises all the law firm’s internal legal knowledge from legal opinions, and contracts to minutes, “enabling professionals to find reliable information in minutes, freeing up their time for more important tasks.
“The system took eight months of immersive work at Sérvulo & Associados during which the team from ByTheLaw identified the disorganization and dispersal of legal information as one of the main blocks to activity.
“The result is the first autonomous legal information management system powered by AI capable of turning fragmented information into a structured and researchable asset”, the company says in a communiqué.
With this new tool, the startup ensures that lawyers can save about 63 hours per user per year. “Lawyers don’t need another search engine; they need a knowledge base they can trust. Generative AI is only useful if it is fed with quality data,” says ByTheLaw CEO André Dionísio.
The project already has 1,100 active users, with clients including Sérvulo & Associados and P&A Legal, as well as an ongoing pilot with CMS. In Public Administration, it is already in use by the Municipality of Coimbra and is being tested out by the Regional Government of Madeira.
