Quintela + Penalva|Frank Knight through its partner Knight Frank in London has found that the Comporta region of the Alentejo is the fifth most sought after place worldwide for investors to buy a luxury residential property.

This is according to its publication The Residence Report 2025 – a new annual publication dedicated to the luxury residential market which it studies at a global level.

According to this new report, the luxury residential developments market is one of the most dynamic real estate markets in the world and is increasingly linked to hospitality, cuisine, private clubs (to reinforce a sense of exclusive belonging), and new expressions of art.

Global buyers are looking not only for the best homes, but also for the richest experiences, in order to gain a sense of involvement and belonging.

The luxury real estate sector also influences architecture and urban design, nearby dining and cultural experiences, and even the way we want our neighborhoods to function. In many ways, it sets the pace for the broader market, influencing other segments.

According to The Residence Report 2025, there are five regions that are in the sights of not only developers but also private investors of luxury residential products. From the Texan cities, where luxury towers are being built, to the ecological retreats of the Fiji Islands, from the coast of Sardinia to Comporta, five destinations are emerging as the new hotspots for luxury residences. These regions combine the appeal of lifestyle, the power of the brand and the high demand.

The Comporta region is rapidly becoming synonymous with the so-called “barefoot luxury”.

Alasdair Pritchard, of Knight Frank, explains that, with the right brands, Comporta has the potential to replicate the formula that transformed Ibiza and Sardinia. The region, in addition to its proximity to Lisbon, long untouched beaches and privacy, is increasingly sought after by wealthy European families.

The developers are positioning the region as an exclusive retreat, distinct from the broader appeal of the Algarve.
Alasdair Pritchard points out that the combination of branding, wellness amenities and relative accessibility makes Comporta one of the most credible markets in Europe.
