The Spanish supermarket group Mercadona will open two stores in the final quarter of 2026 in Faro and Portimão, creating 200 jobs, and is now recruiting.

The food distribution group currently has 65 stores open in Portugal in 12 of the country’s 18 districts.

The Algarve stores will open at the Nova Vila Retail Park in Portimão, and in Vale da Amoreira in Faro, seven years after opening its first store in the country in Canidelo, Vila Nova de Gaia, in July, 2019.

The food retailer will also open a supermarket in the Alentejan city of Beja in 2026 two years after it opened an outlet in Évora. Mercadona had recently opened a logistics centre in Almeirim in a €290 million investment.
