Refurbishment works at Real Madrid football stadium which began before the Covid-19 pandemic, will only likely be completed next year with a total cost of €1.3Bn – an overspend on the initial €675 million budget.

And Portuguese metal construction giant Martifer, which is currently the object of a friendly take-over bid by the rival Visabeira Global Group that will shortly become the company’s major shareholder, built the VIP entrance area at a cost of €16 million.

The Martifer Group was one of the companies that took part in the renovation of the “Galactica” Stadium, being awarded three contracts by the Spanish construction company FCC chosen to oversee and undertake the works.

Together with Spain’s metallic construction company Proinller, Martifer Metallic Constructions was responsible for the roof and facade coverings of the Santa Bernabéu Stadium, affectionately nicknamed the ‘Galactica’ and the home of Real Madrid.

Those works were completed last summer (2024), while this Spring they won a third and final contract for works within the enclosure while having just completed the interior coverings of one of the VIP entrances.
