The Vila Galé Group has opened three new hotels in Cuba: Vila Galé Express Park View (Havana), Vila Galé Cayo Santa Maria (Cayo las Brujas) and Vila Galé Tropical Varadero (Varadero).

Operations began in June, but the process should only be completed within two or three months, the group’s administrator, Gonçalo Rebelo de Almeida, told the online news source ECO.

The hotels already existed, but were not yet being run by the Portuguese hotel group and changes have not been immediately obvious.

For example, the Santa Maria hotel is not yet sporting the Vila Galé brand insignias while it was only at the end of July that an uptick in guests was seen, most of them from Portugal.

“The changeover process always takes some time,” the group’s administrator acknowledged. “We took over (these hotels) in June and it’s now two months. Several changes are planned and will be put in place, but it always takes some time, because we are talking about three hotels at the same time,” he said. “I think that in two or three months everything will be sorted,” he added.

The winter months represent the high season for tourism in Cuba with thousands of Canadian tourists choosing the island for their Christmas holidays.

Vila Galé’s expansion in Cuba marks a new phase of the group’s internationalisation in Latin America for the 4-star hotel group.

The group currently has 52 hotels in Portugal, Brazil, Cuba and Spain.
