Lisbon, Porto, Faro, and Madeira were the most sought-after destinations for Europeans and Portuguese for their holidays in August 2025

Portugal ranks third in tourist preferences from a basket of countries in Europe while flight searches increased 8% and hotel searches 9% in August 2025 compared to August 2024.

According to www.jetcost.pt searches for flights in August increased 8% and for hotels 9% compared to August 2024.

Portugal is the third most sought after country for August holidays after Spain and Italy according to the site.

The results of the survey show that a large majority opted for Lisbon, whose attractions continue to delight European tourists, particularly Germans, Italians and Dutch, followed by the Spanish, French and British.

Another Portuguese destination that combines the attraction of a large city with its renowned cultural and gastronomic wealth is Porto, which is the most sought-after city by Spanish and French travelers, the second by Germans, the third by British and Italians, and the fourth by Dutch.

Faro, gateway to the Algarve, is the destination for those looking for sun, beach, sea, good restaurants and nightlife. Well located, it is the most searched by the English, the third by the French, Germans and Dutch, the fourth by the Italians and the fifth by the Spanish.

As for the islands, Madeira seems to be more preferred by European tourists being the second choice for Italians and Dutch while Porto Santos comes in fifth place for the British.

And the Island of São Miguel occupies fourth place fourth place for the Spanish, fifth for the French, Germans, Italians and Dutch, and sixth for the British. The Island of Terceira is sixth for the Spanish, and seventh for Dutch, French, British, Germans and Italians.
