Improvement works at Lisbon airport proceed apace

Works aimed at improving the operability of Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport which had begun at the start of the year are proceeding apace.

The project, headed by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal (VINCI Airports) is being managed, organised and supervised by the Portuguese construction company Engexpor.

With an investment of over €233 million, the works aim to improve the quality of the service to passengers, operational efficiency and environmental performance of the airport.

Among the main works at the airport – (*which after 15 years of improvements and investments, the government will eventually shut down in favour of the new Lisbon international airport at Alcochete on the South bank of the River Tagus, despite most European capitals having a secondary airport) – is the construction of a new South Pier (33,000m2), the remodelling of the Central Pier and the Busgate South area, as well as well as putting in 10 new boarding gates.

These improvements will provide greater convenience to passengers and reduce the need for bus shuttle services from gates to aircraft.
