The Portuguese unicorn Sword Health, which created a technology system for physiotherapy treatments, has opened a new Lisbon office.

However, the investment, which has not been revealed by the company, was more than its CEO, Virgílio Bento had bargained for.

“It was more expensive than I had wanted because the office’s visual look in Lisbon to be the same as our Porto office. We wanted a good office”, he told the online news source ECO.

The opening event included the presence of the Secretary of State for Health, Francisco Rocha Gonçalves, to whom Virgilio Bento made a pledge: “We want to collaborate with the SNS.

Portugal, like many other countries, has a problem of access to healthcare. All the impact we’re made in the United States we’d like to have in Portugal and other countries.”

The company based in New York has over 100 employment vacancies open in areas such as AI, technology, product, and operations among other functions.

The plan is that the Lisbon office should accommodate the lion’s share of the team dedicated to AI for health in Portugal.

The Portuguese unicorn has agreements with over 90% of the private insurers operating in Portugal and expects to treat around 250,000 Portuguese patients over the next five years.
