Lisbon’s metro company Metropolitano de Lisboa has received four bids to build, supply the rolling stock and maintain the Odivelas-Loures light railway which will be called the Violet Line.

Mota-Engil, Zagope and Spie Batignolles are competing as a consortium against a Portuguese consortium comprising Teixeira Duarte, Casais, Tecnovia, EPOS, Somafel and Jayme da Costa.

The tenders were submitted to a public competition in which applications have bene open since Tuesday.

Spain’s FCC Construcción is leading a consortium comprising Contratas y Ventas, Comsa, Comsa Instalaciones Y Sistemas Industriales and Fergrupo – Construçoes Técnicas e Ferroviarias.

A tender has also been received from MasterStylo – Electricidade e Telecommunicações, Lda.

The contract is worth €600 million, €150.2 million more than the previous competition which ended up being cancelled.

The extra 28% cash was approved by the Council of Ministers in March and is added to the 377.5 million set aside for expropriation and other costs.

In addition to the light railway’s infrastructure project, the competition also includes the supply of 12 bi-directional Light Rail Vehicles costing around €60 million and a three-year maintenance contract for the carriages. The completion of the project is expected for 2029.
